In 2009, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided a Loan (Loan No. SL-P96) to the Government of Sri Lanka to help finance the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Provincial Roads in Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces in order to enhance connectivity and reliability of the roads network, especially for pepole in the rural areas, and also for strengthening institutional capacities of Provincial Road Agencies and Contractors. The JICA Loan for the project involves rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Provincial road and associated bridges through a series of LCB (Local Competitive Bidding) Contracts. The loan also provides for the consultancy services to undertake construction supervision services and supplying for road maintenance equipment to the Provincial Road Authorities in these two Provinces.
Project Objectives
The Project involves rehabilitation and reconstruction of some 163.5 km of Class C & D roads construction of associated bridges and major drainage works in Central Province and approximately 146.94 km of Class C & D roads construction of associated bridges and major drainage works in Sabaragamuwa Province. The works completed under 11 Contracts in Phases 1,27 contracts in Phase 2 and contract in Phases 3.

02. Project Allocation
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by representatives of two countries and JICA on 9th June 2010 and the Loan SL-P96 was granted with following composition effective form 23rd July 2010.
